Statistics Jersey apply the key principles of trustworthiness, quality and value to its work.
These three pillars of the Code of Practice make sure statistics:
- meet the needs of users
- are produced, managed and disseminated to high standards
- are clearly and objectively explained
Two Codes of Practice were published in October 2018, one Code of Practice for Statistics that applies to all public authorities who produce statistics, and a second Code of Practice for Official Statistics that applies to Statistics Jersey specifically.
Following the approval of an amendment to the Statistics and Census (Jersey) Law, responsibility for the Code of Practice passed to the Chief Statistician. The Code of Practice will need to be updated to reflect the changes in the law, and reviewed by the newly formed Statistics Council. The updated Code of Practice is expected to be published during 2025.
