Statistics Jersey has released Employment Statistics (experimental): December 2024, the second publication in this developing series, alongside a new Employment Statistics Explainer. These statistics use administrative data already held by the Government of Jersey and are published on an experimental basis to invite user feedback as the methodology continues to be refined.

The report provides person-level analysis, presenting results for both jobs (counting multiple employments per person) and employment (counting each person once), with breakdowns by sector, age, sex, nationality and contract type.

Key findings for December 2024:

  • 56,830 people were in employment, an annual increase of 80, working 60,700 jobs (down 320).
  • 6.1% of people had more than one job, down from 6.6% in December 2023; females were more likely than males to have a second job.
  • In their main employment:
    • 46,920 were employed full-time (+530)
    • 6,340 were employed part-time (+80)
    • 3,580 were on a zero-hour contract (–520), with most having no other job
  • 25.3% of workers were aged 55+, continuing an upward trend since 2019.
  • Younger workers (16–19) made up 14% of the wholesale and retail sector, up from 10% in 2019.
  • The largest nationality group was British/Jersey (40,030 people), though this group also saw the largest annual fall (–260).
