Jersey’s Chief Statistician, Ian Cope, has published his second annual report, highlighting Statistics Jersey’s achievements in 2025 and priorities for the years ahead.
The report covers the first full year since changes to the Statistics and Census Law strengthened the independence and accountability of the Chief Statistician and Statistics Jersey.
During the year, the Chief Statistician published the Code of Practice for Tier 1 Statistics and prepared the first List of Tier 1 Statistics, which was presented by the Chief Minister to the States Assembly.
Statistics Jersey also strengthened coordination across the wider Jersey Statistical System, including launching a new release calendar covering statistical reports from departments and public authorities.
Performance
A new Statistics Jersey website was launched to make releases easier to find and use.
In 2025, Statistics Jersey published 25 reports — nearly one every two weeks — all released on time. It also responded to 110 requests for data and analysis from government, media, public authorities, charities and members of the public.
Early work began to prepare for the next periodic income and expenditure survey which will start in spring 2027. The Annual Report also adds a new strategic priority: preparing for the 2031 Census.
