Statistics Jersey has today published its Future Housing Needs 2026 to 2028 report, providing an assessment of the Island’s potential housing requirements over the next three years.
The report combines updated population and household projections with the stated intentions of households collected through the 2025 Jersey Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (JOLS) to estimate future demand for different types, sizes and tenures of accommodation.
The findings are intended to support evidence-based planning and policy development by highlighting where future pressures in the housing market may emerge. It does not take account of any future supply as a result of new housing developments or any other policy interventions.
The results suggest that future housing needs are likely to be driven more by the mix of properties available than by overall numbers alone. In particular, the report highlights continued demand for smaller homes, while some larger properties may be available in greater numbers than required.
The report also explores how future housing requirements could vary under different migration assumptions and examines the impact that housing affordability may have on households’ housing choices.
